gong li, actress.
this might be an obvious choice.  when i was ten, i watched  farewell my concubine.  i thought she was breathtaking and somehow reminded me of my mother.  yesterday i watched shanghai (highly recommended!) and was once again stunned at how beautiful and talented she is.  at 45, she has just gotten more and more gorgeous and classy.  gong li is the epitome of chinese grace and beauty.  she&#8217;s such an extremely talented actress with a huge depth of emotional range.  her facial features and mannerisms can so clearly portray innocence, demure coquettish glances, cunning, disdain.  and there&#8217;s something about her that is so old school hollywood glamour.  lastly, i lovelovelove her figure!  she&#8217;s slim but so curvy and voluptuous at the same time, not like the sticks that asians love so much.
anyway, some other movies starring gong li that i recommend:

a selection of my a&amp;f wifebeaters
oh, you best believe there&#8217;s more where that came from.  i haven&#8217;t been an abercrombie &amp; fitch patron for a long time but once a year, without fail, i pop into the deafening store and hold my breath against the choking perfume that hangs heavily in the air.  i make a beeline to the tank top section, sweep 2-3 small white tanks and walk briskly to pay at the cashier, trying to smile politely at the girl who is looking at me with concern and some fear as my face turns purple.
for sweatshop produced goods aimed at teens, the wifebeaters are of pretty good quality. as you can see, they usually last for a few seasons and weather a good numbers of cycles through the washer and dryer.  they are the best fit, elasticity and value i have found compared to other brands i&#8217;ve purchased from, compared to the $40-50 at theory and james perse or the cheaper gap, hollister. often i&#8217;m lucky and happen to strike during a sale.  i wear them year round, layering them under cute tanks, for added warmth in the winter, to the gym, to sleep, to the beach.  i used to buy them in other cute colors too and mix and match but i think i&#8217;m well past the age where it&#8217;s acceptable to prance around in tight, skimpy tank tops.  i think i&#8217;m also a little over the weight for that as well, unfortunately.  ;_;  anyway, you know me, lover of things versatile and not needing a second thought.  in other words, i&#8217;m lazy.

about 10 hours later, he told me he liked me. 2 days later, we made it official.  tomorrow is our 3 year anniversary and in a little less than 4 months, we&#8217;ll be married. i don&#8217;t want to write a long, mushy post about how he&#8217;s the most amazing friend-boyfriend-fiancé-futurehusband ever (cuz he is, no contest.) so i&#8217;ll just sum it up:

entenmann&#8217;s all butter loaf
i love a good, thick slice of pound cake.  more specifically, entenmann&#8217;s all butter loaf.  that&#8217;s right. &#8220;all butter&#8221; and that&#8217;s the way it should be.  i don&#8217;t want to hear anything about that frozen sara lee crap.  what&#8217;s that?  you like it better and you eat it cold?  you&#8217;re disgusting.  get out of here.
the best part is the gooey, yellow part at the top.  i suspect someone just let a fatty pat of butter melt there.  i always eat the bottom of the pound cake and save the top for last.  i used to try to maximize the surface area of the gooey, yellow part on my slice, starting with a thick slice and swerving right until it ended as a super thin piece.  or, i would simply cut from the middle.  when i got older and more dexterous with a knife, i&#8217;d cut in halfway and take the gooey chunk out.
to make my fatty desserts even fattier, i pair it with pound cake.  ice cream, with pound cake. chocolate fondue and bananas, with pound cake.  s&#8217;mores, with pound cake instead of graham crackers.  pound cake, with pound cake.  pound cake, with pound cake, with whipped cream.  really, i&#8217;m the bubba gump of pound cake.  i leave you with my secret techniques of cutting pound cake:

ninja warrior (sasuke) all stars
i could probably watch ninja warrior nonstop, forever.  that&#8217;s pretty much what i&#8217;ve been doing all my free moments for the last three days, and this isn&#8217;t the first time (thanks for the marathon, g4!  even though you suck at everything else).  there have been a few afternoons that came to a standstill because i saw ninja warrior on.  plans thrown out the window, walter and i would watch with clammy hands until suddenly it was dark.
i love the enthusiasm and the ridiculously dramatic, borderline homosexual screamings of commentator (&#8220;he has hunted down and eliminated every ounce of body fat on his body!&#8221;, &#8220;the power surging through him bulging biceps!&#8221;).  i love the insane obstacle that get more insane with every reiteration.  but more than anything, i love the all stars and the regulars (in particular, makoto nagano &lt;3, kazuhiko akiyama and toshihiro takeda) and seeing them evolve over time.  sadly, at some point most of them start to deteriorate with age.  the all stars are incredibly disciplined, focused and determined.  at the same time, they are all so nice and supportive of each other.  i really love their camaraderie.  their dedication to the course and each other makes ninja warrior strangely touching.

the unbearable lightness of being by milan kundera 1984
i first read the unbearable lightness of being during my freshman year of college.  it was an assignment for one of my mandatory lit courses but  immediately became one of my favorite books and a big part behind my yearning to visit paris and prague.  this is a book i can dip into every year or so and read from beginning to end.  each time, i find new quotes, new sections that jump out at me.  the main story is the torturous love affair between tereza and tomas.  i&#8217;m not really one for love stories but as i read, ifelt all the feelings tereza felt and it pressed down on my chest.  karenin the dog is a smaller character but her story is one of my absolute favorites, from birth to death.  the whole book, the themes, characters and side stories, is so well written.  as i&#8217;m about to embark on reading my 4th kundera book, i have the urge to reread the unbearable lightness of being first.  i shouldn&#8217;t.  but you should.

bacon.  it&#8217;s so obvious, but it has to be said.  i love bacon.  my inspiration for this post comes after making myself a delicious easter breakfast sammich* this morning afternoon.  nothing too fancy, just some cheese, two eggs over easy**, bread grilled-cheese style (that is, pan-fried.  in irish butter no less!).  ah, and three sticking-out-the-sides-of-my-sandwich-enormous slabs of thick cut, peppered bacon from the los gatos meat &amp; smokehouse.***
bacon is irresistible.  bacon brings vegetarians back to the light.  it&#8217;s like avocado in that it makes everything better but unlike avocado, it can stand on its own.  i&#8217;m an equal opportunity bacon lover.  i like thin, chewy bacon or thick, crispy bacon.  i like thin, crisp bacon or thick, chewy bacon.  i like it from boutique smokehouses or from oscar meyers.  and it&#8217;s so versatile!  throw it in your burger, sandwich, mac n cheese, and even in your ice cream nowadays (others may gag, but i salute you, denny&#8217;s!).
seriously, who doesn&#8217;t like bacon?  whoever says they don&#8217;t like bacon, i challenge you to a duel to the death!
*eat your heart out, sprog.  this is a real heart attack sandwich! i have been drinking tea for the last 3 hours in an attempt to cut the grease**fried in the bacon fat of course***they make the most amazing turduckens!
